"Help me raise my kids."
As I looked into the eyes of a desperate single mother who said those words with as much sincerity as she could muster, I was at a loss for words until a surprisingly strong voice came out of me that said: “I will.”
As an eighteen year-old young adult I have grappled with many of my own beliefs on religion, life, death, and morality, but before mission intern I had never been the one to teach these things to anyone other than myself. During my time as a mission intern at Metropolitan United Methodist Church I cherished those one on one conversations with me and the campers. Whether it be teaching them to handle their problems with kind words instead of violence and insults, or teaching them that relatives that have passed on are still there watching over them. Mission intern has been a huge growing point for not only the kids, but for me as well so far.
